"My body cries tears of beauty” is a self portrait reflected through a journey into my body and its layered emotional states during an intense time of political turmoil. It narrates my body’s responses to the pain of existing as an Arab during times of war ( and 'peace'). A state of being that I have known my whole life. The project follows my journey of healing from a lower back surgery that I had in November 2021. It is an exploration of my own body as a terrain of war and trauma but also of resistance and spirituality, the project is a memoir of sorts, a memoir of that period, and an internal portrait of a female body, Jordanian, aged, 32.
It is presented as a four part video narrating different parts of my healing journey and through that process, delving deeper into the core of my spiritual self.
The project was developed as part of the PH Museum Criticae Masterclass of 2022/2023,mentored by Laura al-Tantawy, and was exhibited at the Ph Museum Lab in Bologna, as part of a group show titled, “The Window is Always Wide open”.
